20 Self-Love Journal Prompts (and a 5-Minute Daily Self-Love Check-in)

Printable self love journal with prompts

Self-love journaling means writing to yourself the way you'd speak to someone you love: noticing your strengths, answering your inner critic kindly and naming what you need. Pick one prompt a day, write for 5 to 10 minutes without editing, and on harder days use a short check-in instead: how you feel, one thing you like about yourself, how you cared for yourself, and one kind thought to replace a harsh one.

Question Example answer
How do I feel? (heavy, low, okay, good, glowing) Low
One thing I love about me today I stayed patient with my mum on the phone
How I cared for myself Drank water, rested, said no to one extra task
A kind thought to replace a harsh one "I'm so behind" → "I'm doing what I can with the energy I have"

How to write a love letter to yourself

  1. Start with "Dear [your name]," as you would to a close friend.
  2. Thank yourself for something you got through recently.
  3. Name three qualities you admire in yourself, with an example of each.
  4. Forgive yourself for one thing you've been carrying.
  5. End with a promise for how you'll treat yourself this month.

Keep the letter and reread it on difficult days.

Tips to make it stick

  • Journal at the same time each day, such as with your morning chai or before bed.
  • Be honest; the journal is only for you.
  • One prompt a day is plenty. Depth matters more than speed.
  • Put a few short reminders where you'll see them, like “Your worth is not your productivity.”
