How to Organise Family Life as a Mom: Weekly Family Plan, Meals, Chores, Kids' Classes and Me-Time

Printable mom's planner for family organisation

To organise family life, get everything out of your head and into one place, then plan in layers: a family info page you fill once, a monthly overview for birthdays, fees and events, and a 20-minute Sunday plan for the week's priorities, meals and tiffins, errands and kids' classes. Share the chores with a visible chart, keep doctor visits and vaccinations on one list, and schedule a little time for yourself like any other appointment.

1. One family info page

  • Each family member's name, birthday, blood group and allergies.
  • Important contacts: school, doctor, pharmacy, neighbours, the building's security desk, emergency numbers.
  • School details: class teachers, timings and transport contacts.

Fill it once and keep a copy on the fridge, so anyone at home can find it in an emergency.

2. The monthly overview

At the start of each month, write down birthdays and events, bills and school fees due, festivals, PTMs and exam dates, plus two or three family goals for the month.

3. The 20-minute Sunday plan

  1. Check the month page for this week's events and payments.
  2. Write each day's fixed schedule: school, work, classes, visitors.
  3. Choose the week's top three priorities.
  4. Plan breakfasts, lunches, dinners and tiffins, then write the grocery list.
  5. List errands and who will do them.

4. A meal and tiffin plan

Day Breakfast Tiffin Dinner
Mon Poha Paneer paratha Dal, rice, bhindi
Tue Idli Veg sandwich Rajma chawal
Wed Besan chilla Lemon rice Roti, mixed veg

Cooking extra at dinner for the next day's tiffin saves a lot of morning rush. For a full week, see our weekly Indian meal plan.

5. A chore chart everyone can see

List chores with who does them and a tick for each day of the week. Even young children can water plants, set the table or pack their school bag. Visible ticks mean fewer reminders.

6. Kids' classes, appointments and vaccinations

  • Classes: child, activity, day and time, place and fee (₹) for tuition, dance, swimming or music.
  • Appointments: date, who, doctor or clinic, reason and follow-up date.
  • Vaccinations: log each dose from your child's vaccination card, and check upcoming doses with your paediatrician.

7. Busy days: a one-page daily plan

On packed days, map the day from 6 AM to 8 PM, write your top three, split to-dos into kids and home, and note meals. Keep it short; the aim is fewer things forgotten, not a perfect day.

8. Don't skip me-time

Write down what recharges you (a walk, a book, a call with a friend, 20 quiet minutes with chai), tick the self-care you managed each week, and plan one thing just for you each month. More ideas in our 40 self-care ideas.
